NEW DELHI, October 23: Kimi Raikkonen must be still in a daze from the surprise gift given to him by Team McLaren. It was vaunted to be a three way battle by virtue of the permutations and combinations but in reality the odds didn't really favour the Ferrari driver.
Fernando Alonso started the downfall of Team McLaren when he aggressively made his intentions clear to his team mate (?) Hamilton at the very first corner.

Hamilton's rookie status was finally confirmed when he, in a fit of utter madness, attempted to take back his lost position at the very next corner. The move was terrible not only in the point of view of a lack of maturity but also that it was a pathetic driving error. These two factors destroyed all that he had created from the beginning of the season. Perhaps his arrogant approach that has been increasing every race led to his downfall.
He believes that he is the best but without the required experience. Very rarely do we hear many people say 'A wise young man... ' It may be sad that he missed being the first ever rookie to win a world title but then the last few months have been so eventful with the Ferrari-gate scandal et al.
The negativity that came with it and the falling out of favour of Alonso generally caused a loss of harmony in the team. Ferrari was the quintessential Italian family as can be seen by the way they went about their ahead with their job professionally. The way they orchestrated Kimi's overtaking of Massa was breathtakingly brilliant and the single mindedness of the Scuderia outfit was on full display.
Meanwhile Alonso was struggling for pace and let alone hunting down Kimi was struggling to keep BMW's Kubica at bay. Moreover with Massa riding shotgun for Kimi, Alonso's title hopes has disappeared. His third place and Lewis' seventh finally just fell short. Whether it's his swansong at McLaren is not yet certain. Dennis needs the Spaniard for next year's title as much as Alonso needs a quick car.
Massa was the unsung hero at home. He handed over his almost-certain win to his team-mate. I can imagine his angst. Not being able to win in front of his fans and also having to assist his mate taking the world title...

He has proven to be as quick or even quicker than Kimi this season. If he could toughen himself mentally, I am certain that he could be world champ too. Meanwhile Ron Dennis has kept his title hopes alive by appealing the decision of the stewards pertaining to a technical infringement regarding fuel temperature by Sauber BMW and Williams.
If miracles do happen, their disqualification will hand the world title to Lewis Hamilton. If this were to happen, however unlikely it seems, it would be a crying shame.
In a season filled with controversies this reversal wouldn't go down with F1 enthusiasts. And McLaren's brand value will be further eroded if they were to be in the midst of another controversy. Mr. Dennis by the virtue of what did you did to Ferrari recently, I suggest that you should pull the plug on this season and move on.
